State Games of America Press Release

FRANCHESCA CHIERA PLACES SECOND AT THE STATE GAMES OF AMERICA COMPETITION
Coral Springs Olympic Hopeful Qualifies for 2009 Juvenile Free Skate Competition In Colorado Springs

August 14, 2007 (Coral Springs, FL) - Florida Gold Coast Figure Skating Club member, Franchesca Chiera took 2nd place in the Pre-Juvenile Free Skate program and 1st in the Pre-Juvenile Compulsories at the 2007 State Games of America held in Colorado Springs, Colorado from August 1st - August 5th. The second place finish qualifies Chiera for a return performance in 2009 for the bi-annual event.

Chiera used her superior athletic ability in her Pre-Juvenile Free Skate program to place 2nd among a field of nine skaters. Franchesca skated a flawless performance to the 'Neapolitan Dance' of the Swan Lake Ballet. The program opened with a single Axel-double loop-single toe, and followed that with a double Lutz-double loop, single toe-loop, double loop-double loop combination, with a double flip immediately following her straight line footwork, ending with her spin combination. Her spins were well centered and she showed off her flexibility with the Biellmann positions in her spins.

Coming on the heals of a near-perfect Juvenile Free Skate performance (her first tine competing at that level where she placed eleventh) at the 2007 Liberty Competition in Pennsylvania last month, Franchesca was pleased with her silver medal at the State Games of America in Colorado and called this performance "my personal best".

Franchesca will next perform at the 2008 Atlanta Southeast Regional competition from October 16th to 19th in York, Pennsylvania. This qualifying event, sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating organization, sets the tone for the 2008 figure skating season. This event also provides the top six Juvenile placements the opportunity to compete at the 2008 Junior Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah in November.

During the current 2007 skating season, Franchesca has also placed fourth at State Games of Florida (Juvenile Short program), 2nd at the Florida Open (Juvenile Short) and 3rd at the South Florida Challenge (Juvenile Short).

In December 2006, she gave a solo performance at ICE!, an annual Christmas holiday event at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida. Franchesca also skated to "Christmas Eve in Sarajevo" in the holiday show at Glacier Ice & Snow in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Franchesca is a South Florida resident and trains at Glacier Ice & Snow in Pompano Beach, Florida. She is on summer vacation and will begin the fourth grade in August. Franchesca hopes to represent the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics, to be held in Sochi, Russia. To learn more about Franchesca, please visit her website www.FranchescaChiera.com.
